10-20-04 Salvage Operations Begin

The entire operation is expected to take a few weeks.




9-01-04 RV to be salvaged

The Rockaway Valley will be salvage/scrapped. Operations are expected to begin shortly.




4-01-04 Last Run

Rockaway Valley Railway Employees ran the last train over the Rockaway Valley Railway yesterday. Rockaway Valley operations will now be managed by Consolidated Rail Corporation. We thank all our friends and co workers for all the time help out and supported the Rockaway Valley over teh last 12 years.




3-10-04 Rockaway Valley to become Fallen Flag

We regret to report that it has been so ordered on the 10th day of March that the Rockaway Valley will stop all operation on the 1st of April at 12:01 am and become part of the new Consolidated Rail Operations (Conrail). We thank all our friends and co workers for all the time help and support of the Rockaway Valley.




1-10-04 Cold Weather Delays

Due to severe cold weather in the North Jersey area the RV is limited train length and issuing slow speed orders to reduce the impact on rails to prevent broken rails and derailments from frost heaves.




12-5-03 Winter Storm Delays

Due to severe winter storms on the North Jersey area the RV is experiencing delays in train service and equipment shortages.




12-4-03 Law Suit

The Rockaway Valley has filed legal papers against the formation of the Consolidated Rail Corporation Act. The Rockaway Valley wants to remain and independent rail operation despite falling revenue and the bankruptcy and financial difficulties of its parent companies, Erie Lackawanna Railways and the Central Railroad Of New Jersey.




10-18-03 RV Refer Fleet Rolls again

The Rockaway Valley refer fleet is in service for the fall harvest season. This will be the last season for the fleet due to declining traffic and the aging cars.




7-26-03 EL 1025 Out of Service

EL RS-1025 is out of service due to electrical problems. EL will be sending a replacement locomotive while repairs are being made.




7-22-03 Washout

RV experienced a minor washout due to severe summer storms.




7-01-03 Derailment

The investigation into the derailment of an RV freight train on a bridge on 6-29-03 was do to a low ballast area and excessive harmonic rocking for the rail car. An alert member train crew realized the train had derail and stopped the train before any further damage was done to the track and bridge. A slow speed order has been placed in the area until further track repairs can be made.
